AEronautics and Rocketry Enterprise
The AEronautics and Rocketry Enterprise (AERE) at Michigan Tech is an interdisciplinary student team pushing the boundaries of aerospace innovation. From high-powered rocketry to alternative propulsion systems and SAE Aero Design, AERE provides hands-on experience in propulsion, aerodynamics, and advanced flight technologies.

International Rocketry Engineering Competition
AERE designs, builds, tests, and launches high-powered rockets, competing in the International Rocketry Engineering Competition (IREC) and create industry relevant payloads and projects on a smaller scale.

Keweenaw Propulsion Lab
AERE is pioneering a propulsion test lab in the Keweenaw, developing their own liquid rocket engine & designing active control and thrust vectoring systems.

SAE Aero Design Competition
AERE designs and tests electric-powered RC aircraft, competing in the SAE Aero Design competition to advance aerodynamics, optimization, and autonomous flight systems.
AERE: Igniting Innovation, Reaching New Heights.

The AEronautics & Rocketry Enterprise (AERE) at Michigan Technological University was founded with the mission to empower students with hands-on experience and industry-relevant skills in aerospace engineering. As a student-run organization, AERE provides a collaborative space for students passionate about aerospace to design, test, and innovate on projects that mirror industry practices at a scale suited for emerging engineers.
Drawing from the expertise and traditions of established Michigan Tech aerospace groups—Keweenaw Rocket Range (KRR), Propulsion Landing Research (PLR), and SAE Aero Design—AERE integrates these diverse influences to build a comprehensive aerospace program. By combining elements of rocketry, propulsion, and aeronautics, AERE enables students to tackle increasingly complex projects, enhancing both individual expertise and the group’s competitive presence on a national and global stage.
