SAE Aero

History

The Society of Automotive Engineers Aero (SAE Aero) team was founded with the creation of the enterprise in the spring of 2025. SAE Aero was founded out of the existent SAE Aero club at Michigan Tech. While the club was almost defunct due to low membership it was still able to pass on years of documentation and guides enabling the new SAE Aero team to build off what was given to them.

Our Goal

The goal of the SAE Aero Team in AERE is to provide members with hands on experience on airplane design to deepen their technical knowledge and apply classroom concepts to real world engineering challenges. Through participation in The Society of Automotive Engineers Aero competition, students design, build, test, and fly large RC planes, gaining experience in the full engineering lifecycle. By working on complex, team based projects, members develop both technical and collaborative skills equipping them with the tools needed for success in the aerospace industry after graduation.

Past Missions

Spring 2025 – Demo Plane

With spring semester of 2025 being the first semester of AERE and our SAE Aero team the team spent it focusing on ensuing they could design a plane to the standards of the competition. Throughout the process the team learned and refined many skills necessary for the future of the team. While they originally planed to manufacture the plane there was not enough time in the semester so they instead tested various manufacturing techniques on sections of the plane.
