WHO WE ARE
AEronautics & Rocketry Enterprise (AERE) is a multidisciplinary student organization at Michigan Technological University where students design, build, test, and compete with real aerospace systems. Through hands-on projects spanning rocketry, propulsion, and autonomous flight, AERE gives students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to complex engineering challenges.
Our teams develop projects for national and international competitions, including SAE Aero Design and the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC), while advancing student-led research and technical development here at Michigan Tech.
WHAT SETS AERE APART
- Compete on a global stage through major aerospace engineering competitions, including IREC and SAE Aero Design.
- Gain hands-on experience in propulsion, flight systems, rocketry, manufacturing, testing, and integration.
- Work across disciplines alongside students in engineering, computing, physics, business, and other fields.
- Design, build, and test real systems including rockets, aircraft, propulsion systems, and supporting technologies.

Dr. Kazuya Tajiri
Faculty Advisor
Brings expertise in propulsion, thermofluid dynamics, and high-speed flow to AERE, providing technical guidance and mentorship across the Enterprise’s aerospace projects.
Jase Edwards
Program Manager
Leads AERE’s program development and operations while coordinating teams, projects, and organizational goals. As a founding member of AERE, Jase helped establish the Enterprise and guide its growth from its earliest stages.
Eli Schmitz
Chief Financial Officer
Oversees AERE’s financial operations, budgeting, and resource planning, helping ensure the Enterprise has the financial foundation needed to support its teams, projects, and continued growth.
